POSHMARK’S NEW HAZMAT RULE: WHAT SELLERS NEED TO KNOW RIGHT NOW
POSHMARK’S NEW HAZMAT RULE: WHAT SELLERS NEED TO KNOW RIGHT NOW Poshmark has rolled out a major update in response to USPS’s newly enforced Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) regulations. Beginning July 12, 2026, USPS will apply a $50 Hazmat Non‑Compliance Fee to any package flagged for improper hazardous‑materials labeling — most often caused by reused boxes with old hazmat symbols. Poshmark will cover the full fee through July 31, 2026, and starting August 1, sellers will pay $5 while Poshmark absorbs the remaining $45.

This update affects every seller, regardless of what they ship. Even a simple clothing item sent in a box with an old battery icon can trigger the fee. Sellers must now treat packaging with the same care as the item inside.
WHAT TO DO AS A SELLER
- Use clean packaging — Choose new boxes or poly mailers whenever possible. If reusing packaging, inspect every side for old hazmat symbols, battery icons, or aerosol warnings.
- Remove or fully cover labels — Black out, peel off, or completely tape over any previous hazmat markings. Partial coverage can still trigger USPS scanners.
- Check your items — Electronics with lithium batteries, nail polish, perfumes, aerosols, and certain cleaners must follow USPS rules even if Poshmark allows them.
- Avoid prohibited items — Review Poshmark’s updated Terms of Service to ensure your listings comply.
- Monitor your balance — If a fee is applied, Poshmark will adjust your balance automatically with your next sale.
- Contact Support — If you believe USPS flagged your package incorrectly, request a review.
