Generational Inspiration for Female Entrepreneurs

Why is reselling one of my favorite home business ideas to share with others?

The answer is Grandma Mary and Mom.

My grandmother could command a room, a situation and a family.  She ran a business from her home.  She sold a product line of pens, calendars, business cards and advertising materials.  She not only sold those products but she ran a horse farm.   She bargained, bartered and swapped items to keep her farm running.  She saw dollar signs in every interaction.

One of my favorite memories is Grandma taking me to a local coffee shop.  We sat down and other customers and workers knew her.  People came over and talked to her.  She had sample pens clipped on her shirt to pass out to potential customers.  She had business card samples at the ready.  She was smooth.  She smiled, leaned in and focused on everyone.

She was a force and people wanted to be around her.

My mother sold many products from home.  She purchased kits of make up products, clothing,  kitchen aides and scented items.  She interacted with friends and relatives and enlisted them to host parties for her to sell her wares.  She also talked friends and family into purchasing her products.  I also watched my mother navigate negative situations.  At times she had to pay up front for items and did not receive her money back.

From my mother and grandmother I learned three  lessons.

  • Failure is OK. From the debri of failure, you can build an empire.

  • Sharing your success has value. I want to share with the world that anyone can make money to make their dreams come true. YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!!!

  • Gathering free knowledge and information from women who have done it before is priceless.

I work from home in part to role model entrepreneurial behavior for my girls. They see me listing items, printing labels, handling customer service and mailing packages.  They are intrigued by my business and want to help me.  They love finding sold items and putting the labels on the packages.  I am empowering them to learn processes and to see the results of sales.

      The cycle is complete.

I saw my grandmother work from home. I saw my mother work from home.  My daughters now see me working from home.  My daughters have learned skills that one day they will teach to their children and grandchildren.
