Step-by-step simple instructions
- Gather your supplies Get heavy cardstock (or blank bookmarks), glitter markers, scissors, a hole punch, and ribbon or string (optional).
- Cut the bookmark shape Cut the cardstock into strips about 2 inches wide and 6 inches long.
- Round the corners (optional) Carefully trim the corners to make them rounded if you want a softer look.
- Lightly sketch your design (optional) Use a pencil to sketch words, shapes, or patterns on the bookmark.
- Decorate with glitter markers Trace your sketch or draw freehand with glitter markers. Add dots, stars, hearts, lines, or simple doodles.
- Layer colors for extra sparkle Let one color dry for a few seconds, then add another color on top or around it for more shine.
- Fill empty spaces Add small accents like tiny stars, dots, or borders so the bookmark looks complete.
- Punch a hole at the top (optional) Use a hole punch to make a hole in the center at the top of the bookmark.
- Add ribbon or string Thread a small piece of ribbon or string through the hole and tie a knot.
- Let everything dry Lay the bookmark flat and let the glitter marker ink dry completely.
- Seal for durability (optional) Cover the bookmark with clear packing tape or laminate it to protect your design.

1. Glitter Markers

You’ll want a set with bold metallic shine that shows up on both light and dark cardstock. Great options include:
- Metallic glitter markers
- Outline glitter markers
- Dual‑color shimmer markers
2. Blank Bookmark Cards or Heavy Cardstock
Look for:
- Pre‑cut blank bookmark strips
- Heavy cardstock sheets (65–110 lb)
- Black cardstock for extra sparkle
3. Scissors or a Paper Trimmer
Either works, but a paper trimmer gives cleaner, straighter edges.
4. Hole Punch (Optional)
A standard single‑hole punch is perfect for adding ribbon or twine.
5. Ribbon, Twine, or Yarn (Optional)
Choose colors that match your glitter marker palette. Satin ribbon looks especially cute for giftable bookmarks.
6. Corner Rounder Punch (Optional)
If you want smooth, rounded bookmark corners, a corner‑rounding punch is a great add‑on.
7. Clear Lamination Sheets or Packing Tape (Optional)
For sealing and protecting the finished bookmark.
